How to use the character counter
- Type or paste your text.
- Read the counts and the bar for each platform.
- Trim until every bar you need is below its limit.
Why platforms count differently
Most sites count each visible character once, so an emoji counts as one. X counts emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. SMS messages are split into parts: 160 characters per message with plain letters, but only 70 once any emoji or accented character outside the GSM alphabet appears.
