How to use the pdf compressor

1. Choose or drop a PDF.
2. Pick Standard or Strong compression.
3. Select Compress PDF and download the smaller file.

Standard or strong?

Standard rewrites the file more efficiently: it recompresses internal data, packs objects together and drops unused resources. Text, links and quality are untouched, and typical savings are 5–40%.

Strong saves every page as a JPEG picture. It can cut a scanned document or a photo-heavy brochure by 70–90%, but the text is no longer selectable or searchable. Use it when size matters more than editing.

Why a PDF sometimes won’t shrink

Many PDFs are already well compressed. If the result would be bigger than the original, the tool keeps your original and tells you, so you never download a worse file.

Examples

18 MB scanned contract, Strong at 110 DPI

About 2–5 MB

2.4 MB text report, Standard

About 1.6–2.2 MB, text still selectable

Questions

Will the PDF still look the same?

With Standard, yes, exactly. With Strong, pages look the same on screen at normal zoom; a lower resolution or quality makes the file smaller but softer.

What if my PDF has a password?

Open it with the PDF Unlocker first (you’ll need the password), then use the unlocked copy here.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The PDF is processed by your browser on your own device and is never sent to a server, so it’s safe to use with private documents.
