How to use the subtitle extractor

      1. Choose a video.
      2. Pick the format to save as.
      3. Select Extract next to the track you want.

      Text vs picture subtitles

Subtitles stored as text (SRT, ASS, WebVTT, MP4 timed text) can be extracted. Subtitles stored as pictures, such as from DVDs and Blu-rays (VobSub, PGS), would need text recognition and aren’t supported. Subtitles burned into the picture aren’t a separate track at all.

For videos without subtitles, try the Subtitle Generator.

      Examples

MKV with English and Spanish tracks

      Questions

Why does the first conversion take longer?

The first time, your browser downloads the video engine (FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, about 31 MB) from this site. After that it’s cached, and the work itself runs on your device.

      Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to a server.
