How to use the running pace calculator

  1. Enter the distance and choose kilometres or miles.
  2. Enter your time in hours, minutes and seconds.
  3. Read your pace, speed and race times.

Pace vs. speed

Pace is time per distance (minutes per km); speed is distance per time (km/h). Runners usually talk about pace because it maps straight onto a watch: a 5:00 /km pace means each kilometre takes five minutes.

Race times

The race times show how long each distance would take at exactly this pace. Most people slow down over longer distances, so treat marathon times from short runs as optimistic.

Examples

10 km in 52:30

5:15 /km · 8:27 per mile

5 km in 25:00

5:00 /km · 12 km/h
