How to use the exponent calculator

  1. Enter the base, x.
  2. Enter the exponent, n. Decimals and negatives work.
  3. Read the result.

Exponent rules

  • x⁰ = 1 for any x other than 0.
  • x⁻ⁿ = 1 ÷ xⁿ, so 2⁻³ = 0.125.
  • x1/n is the nth root, so 90.5 = 3.
  • A negative base with a fractional exponent has no real answer.
