How to use the unit price calculator

  1. Enter the price and size of item A.
  2. Enter the price and size of item B, in the same unit.
  3. Read which one is better value.

Why unit price matters

Bigger packs aren’t always cheaper, and offers like “2 for 5” can hide a higher price per unit. Dividing price by size puts both items on the same footing.

Matching units

Both sizes must use the same unit. If one is in kilograms and the other in grams, convert first: 1 kg = 1,000 g, 1 L = 1,000 ml. The unit converter can help.

Examples

4.99 for 500 g vs 8.49 for 1,000 g

Item B · 14.9% cheaper per unit

3.00 for 6 eggs vs 5.40 for 12 eggs

Item B · 10% cheaper per unit

Questions

Can I compare more than two items?

Compare two at a time and keep the winner.

What does “per 100” mean?

The price for 100 of your unit, such as per 100 g or 100 ml, which is how many shops label unit prices.

Does it account for waste?

No. If you won’t use a large pack before it goes off, the cheaper unit price may not save money.
