or drop them here Files stay on your device

Compression runs on your device, so it takes a while: roughly the length of the video or longer for HD clips. Keep this tab open.

How to use the video compressor

    1. Choose or drop videos.
    2. Choose quality, resolution and sound.
    3. Select Compress video and keep the tab open until it finishes.

    What makes the biggest difference

Resolution matters most: 4K phone video at 720p is usually 10–20 times smaller and still looks good on phones and laptops. “Balanced” quality is hard to tell from the original at normal viewing sizes. Screen recordings with little movement compress best.

Compression runs on your device and is slower than desktop software, especially for long or high-resolution videos.

    Examples

    1-minute 4K iPhone video, 720p balanced

    ≈ 10–20 MB

    Screen recording, 1080p balanced

    Often 80–95% smaller

    Questions

Why does the first conversion take longer?

The first time, your browser downloads the video engine (FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, about 31 MB) from this site. After that it’s cached, and the work itself runs on your device.

    Is there a size limit?

Files up to 500 MB can be opened. Very long or 4K videos can take a long time and need plenty of memory; for those, desktop software such as HandBrake is faster.

    Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your own device, so your files are never sent to a server.
