How to use the unix timestamp converter
- Paste a timestamp in seconds or milliseconds; the converter works out which.
- Or choose a date and time, and whether it’s in your local time or UTC.
- Select Use next to the live clock to convert the current moment.
What is a Unix timestamp?
A Unix timestamp counts the seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970, ignoring leap seconds. Because it’s a single number with no time zone, it’s the standard way to store moments in databases, logs and APIs. JavaScript and many web APIs use milliseconds instead, which gives a 13-digit number.
